AI licensing representation for publishers
We act as your agent when you license your catalog for AI training. We find the buyer and negotiate the terms.
It is for small scholarly, professional and independent publishers.
How it works
- You list the titles whose AI rights you hold.
- We check your list against the rights and author opt-ins you record.
- We take the catalog to licensing platforms and AI developers.
- You sign each deal yourself. We sign for you only if you authorize that deal in writing.
- The platform or buyer pays you directly.
- We invoice you for our commission.
We place you with existing licensing platforms or directly with AI developers. You keep all other rights in your titles.
A title goes in only where you hold the AI rights or the author opts in. You confirm that no title is pirated, that any AI-generated content is disclosed, and that personal data has been screened out.
What it costs
Nothing up front. Our commission is 20% of what you actually receive.
We work as your exclusive agent for AI licensing of the titles you list, usually for 12 months. During that time the 20% applies to every AI licensing deal for those titles, however it is made. Platforms and buyers you already worked with before signing are excluded. The agreement renews each year unless either of us gives notice, and either of us can end it on 30 days’ notice. Commission continues on deals signed during the term, and on deals signed within 12 months after it ends with buyers we introduced you to.
Our job is to get you more than you could get alone. We do that mainly by pooling small catalogs into larger deals that individual publishers can’t reach.
The platform or buyer pays you directly. We invoice our commission, and we never hold your money. If a platform or buyer pays us anything, we tell you in writing and credit it against our commission.
What we do not do
We represent publishers for AI licensing only. You keep your titles, your rights and your author relationships.
We use your information only for your deals.
For Safahi Publishing authors
No Safahi Publishing book is licensed for AI without its author’s yes. Signed author agreements do not change.
A disclosure
Safahi Publishing is itself a small publisher. When we represent you, our own titles get no preference. If an offer covers both your titles and ours, we tell you and split it in writing before you decide.
